In 2016, while an Assistant Professor in English & Creative Writing at Columbia College Chicago, I began a campus-wide discussion, education, and activism incubator space called truth talk. Our initial efforts focused on police violence against black people, nationwide. We also explored the local implications in light of the national conversation and as Chicago was gearing up for a DOJ investigation into the city police department.
